The Province of Siena lies in the south of Tuscany near the border with Umbria, and is famous for its gentle hilly landscapes and wealth of art and architecture; historically, the province corresponds to the former republic of Siena. The wine known as Chianti is produced here as well; the main centres are Siena, Poggibonsi, Colle di Val d'Elsa, San Gimignano and Montepulciano.
